Lot's Going On At Eastern Market
Recently, the groundbreaking ceremony announcing the third major renovation of
Shed 5 was held. The event was well attended by supporters and businesses of Eastern Market along with the media and various public officials.
The program involved George Jackson, Jr. of the Detroit Economic Growth Corp., Rob Rullig of Rullig Farms, Tom Kalchik of MSU, Barb Hedgepeth, a natural food distributor, and Chris Brown, City of Detroit COO.
Also Charles Pugh the Detroit City Council President, Walter Robb of Whole Foods, and U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow. Also several other city officials and Eastern Market Corporation board members were in attendance.
Upon completion by 2012, Shed 5 will feature a shared use community kitchen to help train and expand specialty food processors to help bring about better nutrition and healthier eating habits.

The Tuesday Market here was a huge success. Dan Carmody and the Eastern Market staff and board are planning to improve it even more in 2012.
