Taste of Ethiopia
2453 Russell St
Detroit, MI 48207
Corner of Russell and E Fisher
In mid-2008 Eastern Market became home to Taste of Ethiopia's second Metro Detroit location. Adding depth to the neighborhood's already diverse restaurant landscape, they were a welcome addition to The Market.
The menu offers dishes that are sure to satisfy the carnivore and the vegetarian alike. A one-time serving buffet is available Monday-Friday, offering diners the opportunity to sample the wide selection that Taste of Ethiopia has to offer. An ala carte menu is also available for restaurant patrons who know exactly what they would like.
A Saturday breakfast menu, in addition to their regular list of options, was added late last year including the dishes 3 scrambled eggs - Ethio style, scrambled tofu, and French toast with fresh fruits. A diverse selection of beverages is also offered, including fresh fruit and vegetable juices.
Most of the dishes at Taste of Ethiopia are served with the traditional injera - a spongy flatbread with a sourdough like taste. This bread is made from Teff, which contains two to three times the amount of iron found in wheat or barley and is sometimes referred to as a "miracle food." Typically Ethiopian cuisine is eaten by tearing small pieces of injera and utilizing it to pick-up your food, in lieu of a traditional Western-style flatware. For the timid, a fork and knife are always close-at-hand.
Taste of Ethiopia is open Monday - Friday from 11 am-3 pm and Saturday from 8 am-4 pm. Dine-in and carry-out are both available.
