Eastern Market Photo Calendar Contest

Eastern Market Detroit is the largest historic public market district in the United States. Founded in 1891 the market is home to both retail and wholesale sales.

Eastern Market Corporation is sponsoring a 2010 Calendar Photo Contest.  One thousand (1,000) full-color calendars featuring winning photographs will be sold.  All proceeds will go towards the ongoing renovation of the Eastern Market sheds.  Everyone is encouraged to submit photographs; whether you are a professional photographer or an amateur with an inexpensive digital camera your submissions are welcome.  Twelve (12) graphs that best represent the distinctness that is the Eastern Market will be chosen to be featured in the calendar, one per month, and one (1) additional image will be chosen for the cover of the calendar.


How the Contest Works

Entries should be sent to photos@detroiteasternmarket.com.  Photographs should be in .jpeg or .tiff format and must be of high resolution.  Digital photographs must be at least eight (8) inches wide and have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.  Most digital pictures taken in the mid to high quality camera setting should be fine.  Poor quality photographs will not be accepted.

Entries must be submitted to the above-mentioned e-mail address by 5:00PM on October 1, 2009.  Thirteen (13) winners will be selected by Eastern Market Corporation to be published in the calendar.  The picture submitted by the First Place Winner will be featured on the cover of the calendar.


Prizes & Winner Selection

One (1) First Place Winner and twelve (12) Second Place Winners will be selected by or on behalf of the Eastern Market Corporation.    Winners will be selected on or about October 31, 2009 and shall be notified by email.

First Place Prize:  There will be one (1) First Place Winner whose photograph entry will be featured on the cover of the "2010 Eastern Market Calendar" to be produced by Eastern Market Corporation, and who will receive a check for $200, along with a Eastern Market Weekend including hotel stay at a downtown Detroit hotel to be selected by the Eastern Market Corporation and a tour of the Eastern Market. 
Second Place Prize:  The twelve (12) Second Place Winners will have their entry photographs featured in the 2010 calendar and will each receive a check for $50.  Placement of each of the Second Place photographs in the 2010 Eastern Market Calendar will be in the sole discretion of Eastern Market Corporation.

Contest Rules

All contestants under the age of 18 must have their photographs submitted by a parent or guardian and include a disclaimer stating that the photograph has been submitted by the parent or guardian on behalf of the minor.

The contest begins March 1, 2009.  Entries must be submitted by October 1, 2009.  Submitting a photograph will be deemed as the contestant's consent to allow the Eastern Market Corporation's use of entrant's name and entry photographs in the Eastern Market 2010 Calendar and in all media for advertising and/or trade purposes without compensation and without additional permission to use such photographs.

By submitting a photograph for consideration and/or in accepting a prize, each contestant agrees to allow the use of such photograph in the Eastern Market 2010 Calendar, publicity and promotion for the calendar and/or further promotion of this contest and future similar contests.  All submitted photographs shall become the sole property of Eastern Market Corporation.

By entering, all contestants release, indemnify and hold the Eastern Market Corporation, its affiliates, agencies and sponsoring companies harmless from all liabilities arising from injuries or damages sustained in connection with the use of any of the prizes.  

All entry photographs shall become the exclusive property of Eastern Market Corporation upon submission to the e-mail address mentioned above, and the Eastern Market Corporation will be the sole judge of the contest rules.  By submitting an entry to the contest, participants agree to accept and abide by the rules.

All local, state, federal and other applicable taxes assessed against any prize associated with the 2010 Calendar contest are the sole responsibility of each winner.  Prizes are non-transferable. The contest is void where prohibited by law.  Employees and immediate family members of the Eastern Market Corporation are ineligible to submit an entry.

Eastern Market Corporation reserves the right to amend any rule at any time during the contest.
